Ryan Benjamin

My name is Ryan and I am a Freshman at Drexel University taking Biomedical Engineering. I got interested in the field because of my high school experience. I went to a technical high school where I specialized in the areas of Electronics and Athletic Health-Care/ Physical therapy. Both of those classes were taken each day for 3 years and led to certifications in the fields. I have always been interested in the health field, and biomedical engineering was the perfect fit between the two areas that I had studied. Not only have I done a lot in the field with job shadowing in Physical Therapy clinics, but I have had the chance to help out with Special Olympics and Project Unify throughout my years in high school. I am currently a brother in the Pennsylvania Beta Beta Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon at Drexel University, and helping in our Philanthropy, Saint Baldrick's Foundation, a foundation for pediatric cancer research. as head of the Fundraising chair, along with shaving my head during our event. I am looking forward to completing Freshman Design and getting to know the other members and their areas of expertise and knowledge.

Xuanjie Gao
Biomedical Engineering-xg56@drexel.edu
My name is Xuanjie, and I am a freshman in biomedical engineering at Drexel University. The reasons why I choose BME were the combination of my interest, my parent's willing, and what I learnt in high school. When I was a child my dream is to become a doctor, cause at that time my body was weak and had to go to hospital rapidly, the doctor treat me well every time so I thought their job was quite sacred. And just three years ago, I got the risk to a disease that had a hundred percent death rate but finally it was proved that it was just a false alarm. Even though it was, I still scared a lot. After that I realized that there are still some diseases that cannot be cured by current medical treatment methods. After I look for some information on the internet I found BME is a subject that combine biology, medical, engineering together, and using a lot different solutions to solve medical or biology problems, and that fit in my dream subject well. The freshman design project provide me a good chance to improve my skill in engineering design and teamwork. I believe those skills will help me a lot in my future career and willing to have wonderful performances during that whole project.
Yilin Wang
Biomedical Engineering-yw487@drexel.edu
My name is Yilin
Wang, and my major is biomedical engineering. I love learning something new. I chose biomedical engineering because I want to go to medical school. My grandpa was a
doctor who learned traditional Chinese medicine, and he expects me to become a
doctor with western medical knowledge. Biomedical engineer is the major which uses engineering knowledge
and tools for solving problems in health care and medicine, and it is a new
thing for me which I love. I am interested in traveling alone, playing guitar and singing
during my free time. Drawing is also one of my hobbies. Some of my friends and family
members disagreed with my choice of major because they think it is too hard for
a girl for learning engineering. However, I
believe that everyone has something that they expect to learn or to do. I want
to try it even it is hard for me because it is my dream to become a
doctor one day, and it is what I expect to do. Even if I may not be able to make
it come true, at less I tried my best to do it. I understand all the reasons which my
friends and family members disagree with it. However, I enjoy all works and
challenges now, even when I am having a tough time. I hope that people can also
understand I still hold to my own view. I ensure that I will still insist on
studying biomedical engineering until I am really not able to overcome new
challenges.
